It's Cookie Time
Kid Stuff
April/May 2010

I've long been a fan of Woodstock Granola. Renee Howe, the company's creator, knows her way around a spice rack and, I swear, balances each bag of granola for the perfect bite of oats, berries and nuts.

Crunchy Enterprise Finds Success After Some Modest Beginnings

Vermont Standard Business
August 9, 2007

An entrepreneur, by definition, is a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk. That sums up the position of Woodstock Granola & Trail Mix, LLC owned and operated by Renee Howe. After careful research and development, she and her husband, Ken, vice president of First Community Bank, agreed to give the business a year to germinate. She launched her business in 2004.

And grow it did. From its modest beginnings, Renee has nurtured the enterprise onto the national scene. She has established a home-based business that takes her recipes for various granola and trail mixes, packages them, markets, and distributes her unique blends to a wide audience. Choosing her presentation carefully, Renee found a supplier of bags that matched her needs. In launching her business, Renee packaged her recipes in 16 oz. bags. She garnered orders from local retailers like the Farmer's Market and Gillingham's, and the Village Butcher in Woodstock and Cabot's Cheese outlet in the Quechee Village complex among many others.

More recently, Howe has begun packaging her product in 4 oz. snackpacks, ideal for the hiker, fisherman, golfer, baseball player, kids at play. The great tasting recipes complement the demands of those seeking a healthier lifestyle.

Earlier this year, Howe displayed her products at a food show in Portland, Maine. Among the many who were attracted to her booth were buyers representing the giant of outdoor products, LL Bean. The result: Renee's first large order from the premier outdoor retailer. Needless to say, she is both gratified by the order as well as convinced that she has a product that meets the demand for a healthy snack. Woodstock Granola is Considered a Top Treat by Fitness Magazine
Fitness Magazine
April 2007

Fitness Magazine selected Woodstock Granola & Trail Mix "Cherry & Ginger Almond Crunch Granola" as one of twenty treats under 150 calories. Woodstock Granola is among other well known brands such as Quaker Oats, Dannon, and Starbucks. "We are so pleased to receive this recognition. We want people to choose our granolas as a healthy alternative for snacking", noted Renee Howe, owner and founder. Made out of whole grain oats, the six all natural varieties are well balanced with natural sweeteners such as maple syrup or honey. They are not too nutty, too soft, too spicy, nor too sweet.

Magically Delicious

When I was growing up, my parents only had healthy cereals in the house - I remember plain Cheerios, Nature Valley granola, raisin bran and shredded wheat. Needless to say, I wasn't a big cereal fan. But the cereal I remember isn't like the cereal today. Cereal tastes good. And Woodstock Granola & Trail Mix, founded in 2004 by Renee Howe, tastes great. . .
